Happy Home Owner Anniversary to Us!!

One year ago today we signed about a million papers which, in the end, gave us ownership of 1300 square feet of airspace.

Well, that and a mail key.

We bought our condo one year ago today. Did you know that when you buy a condo you technically purchase airspace? It's written right in the papers. It's kind of weird.

We love this little place. We had no intention of buying a home a year ago. We didn't think there was any way possible we could. We were in a very bad rental situation with a horrible landlord and even more horrible neighbors. It was pretty much a nightmare. We decided to move even though we had only been there 3 months. We looked high and low for an apartment and we even put a deposit down on one. On a total whim on our way home after paying the deposit we decided to stop in to a builders office. I don't remember why, except that we thought, "What the heck, we don't have anything to lose."

The sales guy was awesome, and said that he could and would get us financing. We said "yeah, right!" This was a Friday. On Monday he called and told us he had spoken to a lender about us and that the guy promised to get us financing. That Friday we put down ernest money. Three weeks after that we closed on a brand new 2-story home we could truly call our own!!

Most of our families and some of our friends haven't seen our place yet, mostly because we don't live convenient to any of them anymore. So, I decided to do a little online open house. Keep in mind that you are seeing our house as is, which means I didn't clean for guests!!

This is our house from the front. I had to take this picture tonight because I forgot to take it today while I was taking all the other pictures! One of the things I like best about our house is our front porch. We have it set up as a second living room of sorts and when the weather is nice it's a great place to sit!

When you enter the house you walk into our living room, seen here. This shot is actually from the landing of the stairway, the front door is down to the left. This is the one room we have left to paint. We can't decide on a color and if we are going to keep our furniture so we have just let it sit. That's why there's not much on the walls!!

This is the powder room which is directly to the right when you come in the front door. There is also a closet on the wall on left that you can't see.

This is the view if you walk through the living room to the kitchen.

This is the kitchen. We have a really big pantry that is to the left.

This is the kitchen from the other side!

And this is out the kitchen to our back patio! Our grill is on the patio to the left. The large barrel of flowers in front, kind of hidden by the bush, was my mothers day present. It is the only gardening I've done in 3 years, and it is beautiful!!

Here's Gracie, she was helping James install a motion detector on our back porch light. She's quite handy!

OK, now back through the living room and up the stairs!!

At the top of the stairs go right and you end up in the master bedroom!! You can see the changing table to the left, and beyond that is our walk-in closet, and on the other side of the closet is a bookshelf. Straight ahead you see our bed and Ian's bed (and Maggie's pillow on the floor), we have a king bed and he sleeps in the twin next to it for most of the night. The quilt on our bed was made by my aunt Judy when we got married. It is beautiful and we painted our room to match it! To the right you see Ian's dresser, our TV, and next to that is the master bathroom.

This picture came out pretty dark, sorry! This is our office. You can see our built in desk and shelves on the right and Maggie's cage on the left. There is also a closet on the left.

This is Gracie's room. Her room is painted a muted blue and pink combination. It came out so nice. I like to call it Colorado Sunrise! I'd really like to get a bunk bed with a full-size bed on bottom and a twin on top so that we can use it when we have guests. We did have space in the office for guests before we got the dog, but now, not so much!!

And this is the kids bathroom. I love this room, it is so bright and happy and cute!! To the left of the bathroom door is our laundry closet.

So, that's our happy little home. I'm so glad you came for a visit. We'd love to have you in person if you ever make it our way!

Thanks to Granny I was able to find out what Muppet I am. Unfortunately this is not the Muppet I would ever pick for myself!!
You Are Dr. Bunsen Honeydew
You take the title "mad scientist" to the extreme -with very scary things coming out of your lab.And you've invented some pretty cool things, from a banana sharpener to a robot politician. But while you're busy turning gold into cottage cheese, you need to watch out for poor little Beaker!"Oh, that's very naughty, Beaker! Now you eat these paper clips this minute."

A day at the museum.

You have no idea the pain I have gone through to load these pictures!! I would say no less than 10 tries. I guess it's good I have a determined spirit. Of course the keyboard is starting to fall apart from my continual bashing upon it, but oh well!!

Anyway, these are shots from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. We went on Sunday which was a free day!! Gracie had a pretty good time I think, it's so fun to take her places now and see her understand and interact with what's going on around her.

Here she is with the dinosaurs!!
Here she is pointing out the "Very Sharp Teeth". She kept repeating that and pointing it out to anyone that would look at her. I guess she'll make a good tour guide someday!

Here's the boys! Aren't they so handsome?

Here's Gracie figuring out how to put a puzzle of a brain together. She didn't do so well, but hey, she's only 27 months old!

And here she is making music. They had a pretty neat computer set up that showed the noise on the screen. I forget what you call that! Anyway, she sat there banging away for awhile. She loves music.

Here are a few shots from outside the museum in the fountain. She managed to run headlong into the same kid twice, the second time we decided that it was time to go home. These are some of the pictures of the happy moments, before we had to leave.

In other news:

I have an interview next week with someone for childcare. For a boy that will be 3 in December. Just about 20 hours a week in the afternoons. Sounds great. I hope it works out. If it does I will start right after we return from our trip to Chicago.

I have a new goal. I am going to try to lose 40 pounds by New Years Eve. Having 2 babies in 2 years has put my body in very poor shape. This will hopefully be a good start!! Don't be afraid to ask me how I'm doing, I really need to do this!!

Gracie is as cute as ever. She is talking even more and more, it's really amazing. I did a little questioners thing and she has the verbal skills of a 4 year old according to it!! There is very little she doesn't understand or know how to talk about. She uses big words and huge sentences and pronouns and proper tense, it's pretty impressive!! Lately she has taken to calling Ian "buddy boy". She also is having issues with monsters, she mentions them a lot lately and this morning was actually quite descriptive about a certain monster that was in her room by her window and he scared her so she yelled at him to go away and then he apparently went outside and was standing by a tree in the yard. She said he was black. The way she was talking about him was kind of freaking me out!! I hope this stage doesn't last. She's also 100% potty trained during the day ( meaning virtually no accidents anymore) and she is mostly trained for night time as well. She is refusing to wear a pull-up to bed and today was the first time I had to change her bed in over a week. We put a little potty in her room at night in case she needs it so she doesn't have to try to get out of her room and to the bathroom. And she has decided to adopt my old "kiki" (security blanket) as her own!! I pulled it out a few weeks ago when we were going through our storage stuff and she now refers to it as "my mommy blanket" and she cannot go to sleep without it and she loves to wrap herself up in it during the day. It's really sweet, I loved that blanket and it is still in really good shape and so soft. I am glad it's getting use again.

Ian is growing and changing too. He has 7 teeth. He is now cruising the furniture when you set him up to it, and he is starting to pull himself up on it from the floor. He is working on crawling, but his main mode of transportation right now is butt scooting. He moves across the room on his rump. Very cute. His sleeping habits have really deteriorated lately, and I am hoping it's cause he's teething and at a new developmental stage. Once he can crawl and his teeth give him a break we will hopefully have at least one good night of sleep before something else starts up.

Well, it's time for me to go now. I need to go to bed!

At the park

Pictures!

I have titles again!! I don't know what happened to the title bar on our blogger page, but James gave me a different program for writing my posts and it has a title bar. So we'll see how it goes.

So, here are some recents of the kiddos.

Gracie and her new tatoo, compliments of Long John Silvers.

Here she is just goofing around in the living room.

Here's Ian laughing at Gracie and her goofiness!

Do you see the teeth on this boy? Seriously he is a little shark!

This weekend should be fairly busy, we need to clean up and organize the office. James has his fantasy football draft Saturday night. (I get to have the kids all to myself for the second Saturday in a row, score!) Sunday is a free day at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and I think we are going to head over there for that. There is a great fountian outside for the kids to play in that Gracie should love. We haven't been to the museum in quite awhile, I think she will like it.

I hope you all have a great weekend too!

The sound of silence.......

Wow.

It's really quiet.

Of course, to get this kind of quiet I had to leave the house. I am sitting at a little cafe, having dinner all by my lonesome and enjoying the peace. Me time. Something I know very little of and I drink it like a fine wine when I get the chance!

The kiddos were driving me absolutely buggy tonight. After the locked car fiasco this morning we headed to a local coffee shop. We had playgroup at 10 and it really wasn't worth going home just to pick up and leave a few minutes later, so I decided to go to a local place that has a nice area of toys for Gracie to play with, enjoy a coffee, and then go on our way. Well, instead the play area was commandeered by 3 snotty nosed kids (seriously, they were all sick with runny noses) that wouldn't share the toys. So instead of quietly drinking my coffee while Ian sucked on my keys and Gracie played I ended up having to referee the situation, take some of the toys to another area, and keep her occupied enough to not get beat up by these other kids.

Then, on to playgroup. We had a pretty good time. Gracie was a little sad. Her best buddy, Claire, had a friend show up that we don't know. It was pretty apparent that Claire favored this friend over Gracie, so she was kind of left in the dust. Given the kind of kid she is though, she just picked up with another friend, Spencer, and they had loads of fun sending his toy car down the slide, over and over and over again. Ian took a little nap in his Mei Tai carrier and I chatted with my mommy pals.

Then on to lunch. My friend Iris and her two boys and me and the kiddos all headed over to Joe's for lunch. We wanted to chat a little more and we were both starving. Gracie and her oldest, Atrayu, played while we occupied the babies and ate. We had a really nice talk. I like Iris. She's good people! I met her at Target last October when we were both hugely pregnant with our baby boys. She asked me when I was due and we found we had the same due date. I asked where she was giving birth and she said at home!! Turned out she had the same midwife that we had for Gracie. She had both her boys at home, so awesome! Anyway, that got us talking about other stuff, and I invited her to our Attachment Parenting International meetings. One thing led to another, a couple of phone calls, and now she's become a good friend! I think we have a lot in common.

Anyway, then we went home. Ian took a 5 minute nap in the car on the way home and then refused to go to bed. Gracie crashed and I goofed around with the boy for an hour. Just as his little eyes were finally fluttering closed I hear Gracie. Ugh........ Only an hour nap after 4 hours of playing with other kids non-stop. I don't know how she does it!

So, then she was up and she was really clingy and driving me nuts, so the minute James walked in the door I said "I'm going out for dinner, I'll be home by bedtime".

Normally I don't like to go out like this by myself. I am a social person. But tonight I just need some peace and quiet and to eat without being climbed on or yelled at or having to simultaneously attempt to shovel food in my mouth while nursing. You really appreciate the simple things once you have kids, like the ability to sit and eat an entire meal without ever getting out of your seat for anything. Sometimes I forget what it's like to eat warm food. I am reminded tonight how yummy it can be!

I took some pictures this afternoon, but I forgot to throw the camera in my bag, so I'll have to post them later.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful, peaceful, quiet night!

I'm an idiot

Just thought I'd mention that in advance of Alice's blog post today.  but hey, everyone has a bad day right?
Silly Husband!! You're not an idiot!

Here's the story. This morning I get a phone call at 8:30. It's James and I can tell something is wrong. The conversation goes something like this: (Me in purple)

Hi honey

Hi there, ummmm.

What's wrong?

Well, I don't know how I did this, but I am standing outside my truck right now and I locked it and it's still running.

What?

Well, I got out of the car and shut the door and then I heard this ticking and I was like What is that? and then I realized it was the engine running.

You locked your keys in the car still in the ignition?

Yep.

Brawwwwhahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahahahahaha. You're kidding right?

No.

Oh my gosh, seriously?

Yeah.

I'm on my way. The kids are already dressed so we can leave now.

Thanks babe.

Sure.

I can't decide if I should stay here or go in.

Because someone might take the truck?

Yeah.

Ummmmm, I wouldn't worry about it!! (If you've seen this truck you know what I mean. I'm pretty sure that Mitsubishi Mighty Max's circa. 1990 are not in high demand among car theives!)

Yeah, ok. Call me when you get here.

So we left, drove to his office, and unlocked his running truck and rescued his keys. I have to be honest here and say I have never known anyone to lock their vehicle while still running. Have you?

Ahhhhhh, just another day in paradise!

A few thoughts today.

First off, thank you to everyone who made a point to take a break from their busy lives and celebrate James birthday with us last Saturday. We really had a great time. It was so fun planning a surprise for him and I am so glad we pulled it off! Thanks to James parents for hosting the party at their house and thanks to Andy for helping with the plans. It was really nice to see everyone, it has been so hard to maintain friendships with such a huge distance and now kids. It was really nice to have a get-together with you all. Thanks also to Emily (James cousin) and her family for joining us. They got the award for attendees that traveled the farthest, they live in Las Vegas!! It just so happened they were in Colorado (in the Springs) for Matt to do some training, so they were able to come on up! It was really nice to see them and their boys! It was fun to meet Jacob, Joe and Jen's little guy. He was born in March, but we hadn't met him yet. He's quite a cutie!

We have been dealing with a little illness around here this week. Runny noses and sore throats, nothing huge but no fun. I am actually sick this time which is unusual, it seems like I can manage to not catch things most of the time, but this time I have it pretty bad

Also, we have added to the family once again. We picked up a new kitten (free of course, on Craigslist) on Tuesday. His name is Horace, in honor of my cat Jasper that passed away a little over a year ago. (You know, Horace and Jasper, the bad guys on 101 Dalmations!) Anyway, he is very sweet, purrs all the time, and doesn't mind a bit at Gracie's attempts to haul him all over the house! Scout really needed a kitty buddy, he has been missing Connor. It is working out, the animals all seem to be good friends already and we humans like him a lot! Here's some pictures taken since he joined us.

He's pretty cute, isn't he??

They've started construction on the buildings across the street from us, finally digging the foundation today. I am so ready for this noise to be over. The neighborhood is still probably a year or more away from completion, but I just want the area around our house finished. It is so loud and interrupts naptime. They have finished every side except directly outside our front door. It will be so nice to have peace and quiet around here!

Well, James just got home, he came home early so I can try to get a nap in and hopefully start feeling better. If only my throat would stop hurting I would feel a lot better.

Photo Blog!!!
Pictures from this weekend, boy, there are a ton. However Blogger is once again not very cooporative in the photo department and I don't have the patience to try to load any more!! Here are some of the best ones.

Most of these were taken at the cabin my cousin Chris and his family have rented for the week. It is up near Meeker Park. We spent time with them on Sunday chatting and relaxing. It was so nice to spend a day in the mountians!!

This one is from Monday morning. Happy Birthday James honey!!
These two were taken at Joes Crab Shack, where we had James birthday dinner. No I did not have seafood, they have bacon burgers that are very good thank you very much!! We love Joe's because they have a playground out on the patio, so we actually got to sit and eat and talk while Graice ran around and played. Some friends of ours ended up showing up later so Gracie got to play with her buddy Spencer for a little while too!

That's all for now!!
