Happy Valentines Day to everyone!
Things have been busy here, James was out of town last week and now this week we are getting ready to all leave for Chicago. Unfortunately James grandpa's fiancee called the wedding off, but our tickets were already bought, so we're going anyway..... The upside is I've managed to pull together a mini class reunion (15 years, can it be?) with a few high school pals and it should be just wonderful! The best thing of all is Samantha (Mom in Guam) will be there!! Her middle son, who is about 6 months older than Gracie, has to have surgery that they had to travel back to the states for. I feel really bad for poor little Wesley, but I am so happy I will get a chance to see them! I kind of thought I might not see them for decades being they are out on that beautiful island! Samantha and I go back to freshman year when we shared a locker, and we have a lot of crazy memories together. I haven't seen her since before Wesley was born, so it has been over 3 years. I also get to see others on my blog roll, Felicia (Things that make me go hummmmm) and Chris (The Bargain Huntress). I get to meet Felicia's little guy Jackson and I get to see Chris for the first time since our 10 year reunion!!! Others will be there too, most of whom I haven't seen since our 10 year. It should be a lot of fun!!! My dad is a saint for letting us all invade his house while I am in town!
In other news we've been pricing out some things for home improvements the tax return will fund. We are going to put a new floor in the living room and foyer, probably a laminate. Our carpet is trashed and I hate the maintenance on it. We also want to put a new deep stainless steel sink and new faucet in the kitchen, put wooden blinds throughout the house, and finally paint the living room, stairwell and upstairs hall. Our last big project, which we probably can't afford yet, it to knock out the half wall that is around the landing on our stairs and along the stairway upstairs and put in a wooden banister instead. We are hiring a contractor for that one though, we just don't know enough about that kind of thing and we don't have the tools we need at all. When it's all said and done though, this house should be much more livable for us and have a better appeal once we go to sell it.
Being that we figure we are in this house for at least another year now we have been making some changes to gain a little more space too. I moved furniture around today moving Gracie back into our room in a more permanent capacity. I have always been sad that she had to stop sleeping in our room before she was a year old because she was such a light sleeper and she didn't sleep well with us at all. Actually she didn't sleep too well on her own either, but over the last 6 months or so she has become a really good sleeper, and now once she's out for the night she sleeps through just about anything. Ian of course sleeps with us and having the 3 of us in one room while Gracie sleeps all by herself down the hall has been making me feel guilty. She's been falling asleep in our bed anyway, then we just move her when we go to bed. So I've been (I was just interrupted by the fact that it's snowing and I have diapers on the line!! It was bright and sunny not 5 minutes ago, seriously!!! How weird!) Anyway...like I was saying, I've been hoping we could move her back into our room, but the problem is that although we all like to be together, no one in our house is very good at sleeping while all jammed up against someone else. We all like our space. So......crazy as it sounds, I moved Gracie's double bed into our room next to our king bed!! She was thrilled, she loves sleeping in our room. So, now I have her room arranged with most of the toys (which were in the office) as a play room (with the twin bed set up too), and the office actually looks like an office again, with all our eBay boxes and books and computer crap (and a giant dog cage, and a little bed for when Dominik is here, and a file cabinet, and.......) I have a couple more things to arrange and then I think it will be perfect. We also downsized our TV cabinet last weekend, we got rid of the huge beast of an armoire I had before we got married, and purchased a much smaller entertainment system. It is really nice to have that thing out of here, it was just too big for this house. I'm always looking for ways to make 1400 sq ft. seem like 3000. It's tricky, but I do manage to find space when I try really hard!
Well, now I'm off to take a shower before Dominik wakes up and I have to take the dog to the vet for her bordetella vaccination. Don't get me started on that though, I could rant about it for hours. It's required to board her, and after our last house sitting fiasco boarding her is our only choice. It sucks though. She has enough mental problems (she is a lab after all), I don't need more brought on. I'm dreading how nuts she's going to be when we come back home.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. We will be freezing our tails off in Chicago, but enjoying the company very much!!
