A very busy weekend!

Phew. I'm exhausted.

We had a very busy weekend. Lots of fun though.

This was the last weekend in our present storage unit. This was the unit we purchased when we were planning to move out. It was 5x10 with a 12 foot ceiling and we had it stuffed full with boxes. Tons and tons and tons of boxes. We've been slowly bringing them home and we had to have the rest moved into the smaller unit we are going to keep permanently unless we wanted to pay more. So Saturday morning we went to the storage place, moved boxes, did a tiny bit more of downsizing. (You know how much we have brought to Goodwill the last couple months? I think we have stocked the entire Parker Road store at least once, if not twice!) We brought all the yard toys back home and we were able to shut the storage unit door without fearing for our lives when we open it again.

Saturday afternoon after naps we headed to Denver for the Denver Auto Show. It was lots of fun. We met grandma and grandpa there and the kids ran around and played in many many cars while we adults tried to keep and eye on them and learn a little about all the new cars. Then we walked down to 16th street (without jackets, it was a beautiful day) and had dinner at Jonny Rockets. After dinner grandma and grandpa had to head home and we headed back into the car show for awhile. We stayed there til after 8 and then headed home with two very exhausted children. You can find pictures here. (There are a few pics from easter too.)

Sunday morning we emptied out the boxes we had gotten Saturday and James ran to get sand for the sandbox. Then after nap we headed up to Brighton to purchase our cow shares. We are now the proud owners of 3 shares of a dairy cow! In Colorado you aren't allowed to purchase raw (meaning non-homogenized and pasteurized) milk. You aren't allowed to buy it or sell it in any manner. BUT, you can drink raw milk from your own cow. So people like us that would like the health benefits of raw organic milk can enjoy it but you have to buy part of a cow. (For information on raw milk just google it.) Our cow lives at Johnson Acres Dairy. Our milk will be delivered weekly down here in Aurora and then we will pick it up. We took our first 3 gallons home yesterday but we haven't tried it yet because we still had a little milk left in the fridge. That should be gone today though, and then we'll get to the good stuff!

After we got home last night we finished unpacking and organizing the stuff from the storage unit, got the kids in bed, and watched Blades of Glory. Now that was some funny stuff!!

So we're back to normal this morning, James left for work, the kids I babysit will be here in an hour. Hopefully next weekend will be restful!

My first music festival!

Last week I heard the Mile High Music Festival announced on the radio. It's the first music festival of it's kind in Denver. Yes, we have been deprived. Anyway, when I heard the line-up I knew we HAD to go and I crossed my fingers that the people we would want to see would be the same day. When I got home I looked it up and SCORE..........the line up for Sunday, the second day, has two of our all time favorite artists, Dave Matthews (James loves him) and John Mayer (I love him). So we got tickets.

I can't wait to go. I've never gone to a music festival before. There will be tons of other bands all day long leading up to the headliners (The Black Crowes, Dave Matthews and John Mayer). Our tickets came tonight in the mail. Now I just have to wait 4 months!!!

The things she says.......

I gotta save this one for posterity.

The Scene: Last night the kids are in the tub and Gracie is playing with a cup.

Gracie: "Look mommy, I have a cup vagina."

Me: "Wow! What happened to your regular vagina?"

Gracie: "I don't know. I think I lost it."

Me: "You lost it? Well, that's too bad."

Gracie: "No mommy, I know, I didn't lose it.........I put it in a crotch box!!"

I laughed so hard!! Where does she come up with this stuff??!!!

Project Complete!

This weekend I needed to repaint a dresser we picked up for Gracie. The dresser she had was adorable but totally falling apart. Press-board furniture just does not last the abuse of a child! So I shopped around on Craigslist and found a really cute antique dresser that I thought was perfect. I sent James to pick it up last Thursday and I really loved it except that it was mint green! From the pictures on Craigslist it looked white which I thought was perfect, I wouldn't have to do a thing to it. However when he got home I was faced with a green dresser which just could not go in her beige, pink and white bedroom. So I whipped out the paint that was left from painting her room and got to work. I needed to paint her book shelf too which oddly was also a mint green, so I did both projects together. I think the dresser turned out adorable and it looks perfect in her room.

Link to more pictures!

I load a lot of pictures on Facebook, their download system is really nice and so much easier than Blogger!

So here's a couple links!

Pictures from today at The Wildlife Experience Spring Eggstravaganza.

Pictures of our new floor
.

Enjoy!

A new floor and a new camera!

Our living room floor is all done. We had all the carpet replaced with a wooden laminate and it looks sooooooo wonderful. It also now highlights how desperately we need to paint the walls. As soon as the weather is nice enough to have the windows open for a few days to let it air out I will be all over it.

We purchased a Canon S5 last night. Our previous camera has been dying a slow death since last February when Ian dropped it on the cement in my dad's basement. It officially gave up the ghost a couple months ago and we have been sparingly using a camera from James office. It doesn't take great pictures though and I have been too nervous to take it anywhere with me because it's not ours. With the tax return in place we decided that we really wanted to replace the camera. I wanted to get the best camera we could justify purchasing because I really do enjoy taking pictures and I want a camera that will work with me and more importantly take good pictures of children who rarely sit still. So far this camera is great. I know there is a lot I can do with it, I just need to learn a little more. The manual is huge but I am determined to read it so I can use every possibility and have great pictures. So here's a few from the last 24 hours!

The student quietly listening to his lectures on the internet:

The boy ever so patiently waiting for his breakfast:

The girl pretending to be a princess at the ball (note the new floor):
More pictures later, blogger is being a real pita. I may just put pics up on face book and publish the link, it's a million times easier to put them up there!

Why I love this guy....

James is not afraid to jump around and look like a total fool doing physical comedy at the gas station while pumping gas because it makes Gracie and Ian laugh their butts off. Not a lot of guys have the confidence to let it all hang out like that in public. He manages to pull it off with style!

Big first for Gracie

Yesterday Gracie was invited to a have dinner at her friend Paige's house. We had met them at the park to play in the afternoon and the girls asked if Gracie could go eat dinner over there so we moms decided sure, why not! Gracie walked home from the park with them while I walked home with Ian alone. She had a great time, they played for awhile longer before dinner and then James picked her up a little after 7. I can't believe my little girl is big enough to play with her friends without mommy but apparently she is! *insert misty eyes here*

In other news Ian woke with a fever of 103.4 around 11pm. A short while earlier Gracie had decided she was scared and needed to sleep with us. So when Ian woke up burning like the sun I decided to sleep with him and Gracie stayed in our room with daddy. I don't think any of us got very good sleep. Ian still feels crappy, his fever is bouncing between 101 and 103. No other symptoms so I assume it is some random kid virus. I hope it passes soon.

James stayed home due to to the sick boy and the fact that our floor is getting installed today and I had a list of errands a mile long for today. So he went out and got his hair cut, picked up dinner for Sunday, and picked up a dresser I found for Gracie's room. Gracie's current dresser is adorable but unfortunately it's totally falling apart, it's made of press board and no amount of rescrewing, using larger screws, or liquid nails will keep it together. We've repaired it more times than I care to count. We got it two years ago for $30 so I can't really complain! Today he picked up an antique dresser that is in fabulous condition! I just need to pain it white and it will be good to go, right now it's a seafoam green color. I need to paint her little book shelf too, so I guess I'll do them at the same time!

Tomorrow is LLL and this weekend is full of plans, we are going to an eggs-stravaganza at the local museum on Saturday followed by a babysitting swap Saturday evening. Sunday we will have James parents down for dinner. Busy is good though, right!

Welcome to our new look!

I'm still working on getting it customized but isn't it cute? The only thing I really want to change and can't figure out is the quote at the header. I just can't figure out how to remove it without removing the color and stuff behind it. I'll keep at it though, and get my links back up as well!

Enjoy!

Dan Zanes Concert in Boulder

We went to Boulder today to see Dan Zanes. It was a great concert, so much fun. Then we spent the rest of the afternoon in Boulder and had lots of fun walking around and just enjoying the day. Man I miss being near to Boulder.....it's such a great place to live. I hope we can get back there some day......

Anyway, here's a link to some pictures: Dan Zane Concert

Ianisms

Well, he doesn't really have that many but here's a couple that spring to mind.

His newest phrase is "Awwww man". We can thank Swiper the fox for that one and if you don't know what I'm taking about you obviously don't have preschoolers! He says it every single time he doesn't get the response he wants. He says it with the voice of disappointment and usually a cute little head hanging for good measure. It's adorable!

He loves to hug everything. He's very snuggly. He even hugs his food. I'm not kidding! Randomly throughout the day he chooses to hug and pour affection on various things like pretzels, books, shoes, cars, cups, etc...... He will pick them up and hug them to his neck and call them baby. It's the sweetest thing ever.

He's taking cue from big sister and doing lots of "Humph"ing at us when we tell him no or ask him to do something he doesn't want to. He usually also crosses his arms and turns his back. And then he will peek at you to see if you are watching. Then he smiles and usually forgets what the whole thing was about. He's not one to hold a grudge, thank God!!

Here's a cute story from today. I put him down for his nap and he took a whole line of train cars with him, like 5 pieces. He was driving them around on his bed when I left. When he woke up I came in and he immediately says
"Trains? Where go? Trains?" So I said
"Trains? Well I don't know, what did you do with them?" I started looking on the floor figuring he tossed them off. Then he smiles and says
"Hiding.....pillow..." and he lifted up his pillow. There was the whole train. I guess he put it there for safe keeping. He loves to hide things. He also always says things are hiding if we can't find them. It's so sweet!

Gracieisms

You gotta love these. Both are from today!

Today we are driving in the car and she starts asking me to add numbers.
"Mommy, what's 10 and 4? Mommy, what's 10 and 8?" And so on.
Then she asks me
"Mommy what's 10 and January? Is that Tenuary?"

I was doing dishes this morning and she came to me doing a sign. I didn't know what the sign was exactly so I was guessing. She wouldn't talk of course, she just kept doing it so I would keep guessing. Anyway......finally I got close to it I said
"Is it a plant growing?" and she says
"Yes, it means grow. It's Spanish for grow!"
So many of the kids programs now have either signs or Spanish in them, apparently she's getting her languages confused!

I'm gonna have to start adding Ianisms soon, he's talking up a storm these days!

It's been awhile!

I check in from time to time but haven't actually written anything in soooo long. No reason really, I've been messing with Facebook but I've decided that I miss my writing outlet.

Anyway....here in Burson land life has shifted a bit. Ian is 2 now and is well on his way to boyhood. He is still sweet as pie. His current obsessions are hammers, horses, and trains. He loves beating the heck out of everything, he uses any hard object as his "hamma" and spends large amounts of time every day hitting the walls, floors, furniture, toys, pets, us, while he plays handyman. It's mostly cute although sometimes painful. He's also really enjoying books now, he loves his bedtime stories! Ian weaned a week before his birthday and we moved him into his own room a few weeks ago. He has adjusted wonderfully, he sleeps all night without a peep and loves his new space.

Gracie is almost 4, I can't believe it! She got her ears pierced in December and is looking more and more like a big girl every day. She's still social as ever and recently took an art class at the rec center. She's looking forward to starting music class up again at the beginning of April. When we moved Ian into his own room we also redecorated hers and it is super cute and more girly than babyish now. She likes to spend time doing art projects and is getting into board games. She's been practicing on her bike again and is really hoping for a bike with pedals for her birthday, I guess we'll see!!

James is in graduate school, he is getting his MBA through Regis University. He started his classes on Monday. It's going to be a big change with retreating to do his homework every night but it's a good thing. It will take him about 2 years, possibly less if he is able to get into the accelerated program once he has completed his first year.

There' s nothing much going on with me except for the cleaning and managing of the above mentioned humans plus the cats and the dog. I'm still babysitting a few hours a week too. My household chores have increased a bit with James in school, I want to make sure he isn't distracted from getting stuff done. He's always been a very helpful husband who constantly pitches in with housework and kid management so I will miss that but it won't be forever! I've also been figuring out some home improvement stuff. We are going to get a new floor installed in the living room finally and we are also hopefully going to have wood and iron railings installed in the stairwell. We have a couple bids on the job and are seeing how the $$ works out. It will be so nice when it's done!!!

Today we went to The Wildlife Experience, a local museum that focuses on animals and conservation in art. I bought a membership so we'll be there often. They have massive dioramas and displays of stuffed animals as well as beautiful art work and a couple great children's areas. We had a blast today, one of the newer displays is about being an settler in the Jamestown settlement and it was like a choose your own adventure type maze thing where you see if you can survive. Gracie and I thought it was really fun, Ian liked running off and making me find him..... It was so fun to teach Gracie about the different decisions that could be made and how they would affect your life. She's sooo smart and she just soaks it all up like a sponge. I love seeing her learn and think things through. It's so awesome!

I'll get some pictures up soon. Our camera officially died and we've been borrowing one from James office. I haven't been as good about taking pictures since it's not our own camera. We really need to just go get a new one.
